As I wrote in a previous post, I was planning to read a few books from the list. Now that I have read the book "The Great Gatsby" I am sorry to say that I didn't find anything great in it.
Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that the book is not up to the mark or that sort of thing. Its just that, if this one is in the best of the best list, IMHO books like " Catcher in the rye" or perhaps "Old Man and the Sea" should have been there too.
Anyways, here is what I think of it. The author is most brilliant in constructing the characters and their surrounding. Although the book is old (1925) the language is easy to read. It also has a flow to it, which pulls you to read the book till the end.
The plot is good enough, and it could have been better read had the preamble not been so long as it is in the book. Initially, the author eats up too many pages, although it sets a tone for the reader. Its not a long read so do enjoy it. I think you should read the book just to get a feel of that 20's USA.
Here is the wiki link. It has a detailed plot, and other links.
Please recommend me some interesting books if you can. I am finding it difficult to get good books these days. Also, its better if you can spare a soft copy. Saves a lot of space and its more convenient for me that way.
Also, talking of books, shelfari.com is a neat site to check out if you are a book lover.
